Breast Reconstruction After Mastectomy
A mastectomy is one of the most profound physical and emotional experiences a woman can go through. Reconstruction is the next chapter — the step that allows many women to feel whole again, to recognise themselves in the mirror, and to move forward. According to published medical data, more than 60% of women who have undergone a mastectomy express a desire for reconstruction at some point in their journey. Dr. Fathi offers two main pathways depending on each patient's individual situation and oncological history: immediate reconstruction performed during the same surgical procedure as the mastectomy, and delayed reconstruction planned months or even years after the mastectomy, once oncological treatments are complete. The techniques she uses include lipofilling — the transfer of the patient's own fat to naturally reconstruct volume and shape — and breast implants (Mentor or Motiva implants). In many cases, both techniques are combined for the most natural result possible. Every reconstruction plan is built around the individual patient.
