Breast Reconstruction After Mastectomy
A mastectomy is one of the most profound physical and emotional experiences a woman can go through. Reconstruction is the next chapter — the step that allows many women to feel whole again, to recognise themselves in the mirror, and to move forward. According to published medical data, more than 60% of women who have undergone a mastectomy express a desire for reconstruction at some point in their journey. Dr. Fathi offers two main pathways depending on each patient's individual situation and oncological history: **immediate reconstruction** performed during the same surgical procedure as the mastectomy, and **delayed reconstruction** planned months or even years after the mastectomy, once oncological treatments are complete. The techniques she uses include **lipofilling** — the transfer of the patient's own fat to naturally reconstruct volume and shape — and **breast implants** (Mentor or Motiva implants). In many cases, both techniques are combined for the most natural result possible. Every reconstruction plan is built around the individual patient.
